Metro Vancouver gas prices have broken the all-time record high with a number of stations hitting 164.9 cents per litre Monday morning.

Dan McTeague, senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy.com, tweeted on Sunday that several stations were already showing a record high of 164.9 cents per litre. He added that, “many more stations will follow by tomorrow morning.”

Joyce Ang, sales administrator for the Richmond News, said the high gas prices drove her to seek cheaper prices at Bellingham's Costco over the weekend. She wasn’t the only one, as lines of cars waited at to fill up at one of 18 pumps for $3.09 USD per gallon, which equates to approximately $1.10 per litre.

“It was a 20 minute wait for me,” Ang said. “I think 90 per cent of the cars in the line were B.C. cars.”

Meanwhile, Richmond North Centre MLA Teresa Wat shared her frustration over gas prices on Twitter Monday morning, with a photo of a station posting the 164.9 record high price.

“When will we get a ‘relief’,” Wat tweeted, referencing Premier John Horgan’s comment that “some relief” will be considered for those who can’t afford the high prices.

Last Thursday, Horgan said his government will monitor prices at the pumps over the summer see if there is “an opportunity to have the province step in and help.”

While several Richmond gas stations are currently at that 164.9 rate, according to GasBuddy, some drivers may be able to fill up for as low as 149.9. Gas prices at various stations could continue to fluctuate throughout the day, however.
