Richmond police are warning against the dangers of vehicles carrying insecure loads after a man was stopped before driving off with a full-sized fridge in the trunk of his car on Aug. 8.
In the early afternoon, Const. Justin Stewart was called to the Liquidation World parking lot on Sexsmith Road in Richmond after a report described the scene as a "hazardous situation."
Stewart arrived to find a driver trying to load a full-sized fridge into the trunk of his car.
"The fridge was one third in the trunk while the remainder teetered over the edge of the car's bumper," said Stewart.
"The fridge was secured to the vehicle using rope and the seatbelts from the backseat."
The surprised driver said he was unaware of the dangers of transporting a fridge in his trunk.
"We'd like to encourage people to please take the time to properly transport items," said Richmond RCMP spokeswoman, Cpl. Sherrdean Turley.
"Insecure loads are to blame for collisions and injuries far too often. These instances can be prevented."
