The City of Richmond no longer accepts cash at City Hall.

Property taxes in Richmond are due on July 4.

Payments can be made online or in-person through one’s financial institution, online by credit card (service fees apply) through the city’s website or by mailing a cheque.

Cash is no longer accepted at city hall, and the city also is warning property owners not to send cash in the mail or drop off cash at the city hall drop box.

Payments can also be made in-person at city hall during business hours, which are Monday to Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 5 p.m.

However, city hall will be closed on Monday, July 3 for the Canada Day weekend.

Accepted payment methods are cheque, debit card and credit card (service fees apply).

If taxes are not paid and/or grants not claimed by July 4, a five-per-cent penalty will be charged on all current outstanding taxes. A further five-per-cent penalty will be charged on all outstanding tax amounts after Sept. 5.

All property owners are responsible for property tax payments and applicable penalties, regardless of whether or not a tax notice is received.

The city sent out its tax notices at the end of May, and any property owner who hasn’t received it should contact the city’s tax department at 604-276-4145.
