A former Scout leader has been charged with several offences after someone laid a complaint against him last week, the Vancouver Police Department announced Tuesday.
Eddie Kar Fai Au, 36, of Richmond, has been formally charged with counselling a person to commit suicide, aiding and abetting a person to commit suicide, assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm, the police said in a release.
The court has imposed a publication ban on all details related to the bail hearing as well as information related to the alleged victim.
Au has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 21.
He was charged in 2009 with sexual exploitation and assault against a youth in Vancouver. Police said Au had sexual contact with a 16-year-old minor in Vancouver while he led the boy's Scout troop. After the charges were laid another man, then 20 years old, told police the same thing had happened to him years earlier.
Au pleaded guilty in April and was sentenced to 18 months in prison and received a two-year term of probation. Because he had already spent nine months in pre-trial custody prior to being sentenced, he did not serve any more time, records show.
