The driver of the Porsche involved in last week’s fatal crash near YVR has been moved out of intensive care.

Police said Tuesday the Delta man, 50, is now conscious but is still unable to talk.

His female passenger, 42, a tourist from Costa Rica, died in hospital. Neither of them has been named officially by police.

However, according to The Province newspaper, friends and family have identified those in the Porsche as Glenn Taylor and Marcela Avila.

A family member said Taylor and Avila were a couple, and that Taylor had picked up Avila at the airport minutes prior to the accident.

Police said alcohol may have been a factor in the crash on July 4 on Grant McConachie Way after the Porsche 911 was struck from behind by a Mercedes.

The impact sent the Porsche veering off-road before catapulting through the air and into a tree.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 24-year-old Vancouver man, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
