An explosion and fire on Mitchell Island has led to a worker being taken to hospital Wednesday afternoon.
WorkSafeBC is understood to be investigating the accident at United Lock-Block Ltd. on the islands 13,000-block of Mitchell Road that sent one worker to hospital with undetermined burns.
Richmond RCMP said the accident happened at 2 p.m. while a male employee worked on an electrical box, which exploded and started a small fire.
The worker was taken to Vancouver General Hospital, but the extent of his injuries was unknown.
No-one else was hurt in the accident.
