Eight drunk drivers were detained and taken off the road and 49 tickets were issued in a road safety blitz in Richmond Saturday night.
Richmond RCMP’s Road Safety Unit teamed up with BC Highway Patrol for a road safety enforcement sting, aiming to get drunk drivers off the road.
They were stationed at the Sea Island Way off-ramp from Highway 99 south.
On top of the eight drunk drivers, another driver was arrested for driving while prohibited.
In total, drivers received tickets for 49 various provincial charges during this one-night operation.
“(Road safety) operations like this one, which see Richmond RCMP collaborating with BC Highway Patrol, allows us to enhance our enforcement of road safety rules and regulations,” says Const. Frank Tarape of the Richmond RCMP Road Safety Unit.
During the month of July, Enhanced Road Safety Enforcement Initiatives will be occurring every Friday and Saturday night somewhere in the City of Richmond.
“Our message is clear,” said Tarape. “Drive safe. If you’re going to drink, don’t drive.”
