Drivers urged to slow down

School is back in session and the City of Richmond is urging drivers to pay extra attention to school zone speed limits.

"The impact of an injury to a student due to excessive speed or careless driving of a third party can have devastating consequences and impacts, not only to the student, but also to their families and fellow students," said Deputy Chief Kim Howell of Richmond Fire-Rescue.

"We all encourage all drivers to obey posted speed limits and be extra careful around school and playground areas."

The posted speed in all school zones is 30 km/hr. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on all school days.

The speed limit around playgrounds and sporting fields is also 30km/hr, but are in effect from dawn until dusk every day.
