Deadline looms for city council, trustee candidates

At press time, the candidates for the Nov. 19 municipal election included two mayoral candidates, 13 council hopefuls, and eight would-be school trustees. The mayoral candidates are incumbent Malcolm Brodie and challenger Richard Lee.

Vying for the eight spots on city council are former trustees Chak Kwong Au and Carol Day along with Michael Wolfe from RITE; Linda Barnes, De Whalen and Harold Steves from RCA; Derek Dang, Ken Johnston, Bill McNulty and former trustee Linda McPhail from Richmond First.

Independent city council candidates include Cynthia Chen, Evelina Halsey-Brandt, Cliff Lifeng Wei, Ramzan Patni and Jun Wuyan.

Hoping for one of seven slots as school trustee are: independent candidate William Kang Chen, Richmond First candidates Donna Sargent, Debbie Tablotney, Grace Tsang and Eric Yung.

RITE candidates include Rod Belleza, Norm Goldstein, and Michael Starchuk.

Nominations close Oct. 14 at 4 p.m. Incumbents Greg Halsey-Brandt and Sue Halsey-Brandt are expected to run, but have yet register.
