A serious accident in the early hours of Saturday had a section of Highway 91 closed down in Richmond.
Highway 91 was closed for several hours following the crash, leading to traffic delays for drivers travelling through Richmond on Saturday morning.
At about 2 a.m., a pick-up truck travelling westbound is believed to have struck the concrete divider between No. 6 and No. 7 roads, forcing chunks of the barrier into the eastbound lanes.
Police say a vehicle travelling eastbound then flipped after hitting one of the barrier pieces.
As a result, the 21-year-old driver of the eastbound vehicle was taken to hospital with what is understood to be serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.
The driver of the pick-up apparently abandoned his vehicle and walked away from the accident just as an RCMP officer was arriving.
Police later tracked him down and he was found to be suffering only minor injuries. He is said to be co-operating with police.
The cause of the crash is still unknown, but police say it would have taken considerable force and/or speed to shift the concrete barrier the way the pick-up did.
