Richmond city council will decide whether to approve a proposal for two towers, comprising a hotel and an office building, to replace a low-rise commercial area along the Fraser River middle arm.

This is one of the items on the council's full agenda tonight.

The City of Richmond received an application to rezone a section of the Aberdeen Village riverfront with a proposed development on River Road, just north of Cambie Road, which will include an 11-storey hotel, an eight-storey office building and other small businesses.

Meanwhile, councillors will decide whether to approve a Heritage Alteration Permit to allow a new boardwalk to be built on London Farm.

According to a city staff report, the boardwalk will connect the park areas on the east and west sides of the pond, near the south end, as well as a walking loop.

Development permit panel

Council members will discuss whether to issue a development permit or not for a five-storey, multi-family apartment building at 9300 and 9320 Cambie Road.

The building will house 126 residential units, five units will be for affordable housing, above a common parkade.

According to the city staff report, the development proposal received its third reading on Jan. 18, 2021, which on the same day had its public hearing for the rezoning of the area.
