Council this week: pride flag, liquor licence, traffic calming

Richmond city council has a full agenda scheduled for Monday's regular 7 p.m. meeting, but one speaker will be talking about the city's flag policy.

One person have signed up to talk about the city's flag policy and is asking council to change it to allow for the Pride Flag and also the "Every Child Matters" flag to be raised.

Before the speakers, city council will vote on whether a Richmond eatery can extend its liquor service from midnight to 2 a.m. If passed, a letter will be sent to the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch with council recommendations as well as a public consultation to follow.

Meanwhile, a traffic calming update to Kittiwake Drive will be addressed on Monday evening as well.

An option to implement a pilot project to temporary install "two speed cushions" on the street for six months to address speeding concerns in the neighbourhood.

According to a staff report, a traffic speed survey was conducted over a seven-day period last September and results showed a speeding issue on Kittiwake Drive. Between 2016 and 2020, a total of 11 crashes were recorded on Kittiwake Drive with, seven of the incidents occurring at the intersection with No. 2 Road.
