Council this week: Grants, budgets, rezoning

General purposes, finance and planning committee meetings are taking place this week.

Richmond city hall's general purposes committee meeting on Monday will be mainly looking at grants being awarded to several city departments.

Councillors will be reviewing the total grant amounts being recommended for the following departments:

  • Arts and culture -- $124,258
  • Parks, recreation and community events -- $120,017
  • Environmental enhancement -- $36,393
  • Health, social and safety -- $661,312
  • Child care -- $49,936.46

Finance committee (Monday, Feb. 6)

The city's finance committee will be looking at the 2023 operating and capital budgets for Lulu Island Energy Company as well as the Richmond Olympic Oval.

According to the city staff report, the recommended capital budget for Lulu Island Energy Company for the 2023 year is $1,600,000.

Meanwhile, in a letter submitted by the director of finance, innovation and technology from the Richmond Olympic Oval Corporation is requested a 2023 capital budget total of $2.21 million, which includes a minor budget of $1.40 million and a major budget of $810,000 funded by the corporation.

Planning committee (Tuesday, Feb. 7)

An application is being reviewed where Urban Solutions Architecture Ltd. requests the rezoning of an area near River and Cambie roads from an auto-oriented commercial to a high-rise riverfront commercial zone.
