A short agenda is scheduled for Richmond's general purposes committee meeting on Monday at 4 p.m.

Richmond councillors will be reviewing an update to the city's flag policy.

Council previously approved the city's flag policy to include the display of the Pride flag during Pride week and a flag for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on the east side of city hall.

Staff have updated the policy to add "a responsibility section, removing some references to the Canadian Olympic flag" and other changes to key terms or sections.

Councillors will also decide whether to allow additional "amusement machines" to an amusement centre opening on No 3. Road, under the city's current bylaw for entertainment businesses.

Meanwhile, a public hearing will take place at 7 p.m. after the committee meeting to hear what the community has to say about five different bylaw amendments.

Among the five, is the Landa Oval Development which is looking to build a mixed-use development of 356 apartment units, a hotel and retail shops along River Road at Elmbridge Way.

A city staff report found that the 2022/2023 pilot initiative was "not sufficiently successful" when it came to clearing snow and ice multi-use pathways in Richmond.

Staff added that "pre-treatment" and winter maintenance would be the most effective for the city streets.

"The current inventory of snow response fleet equipment is not sufficient to provide this level of service due to priority service demands established by Policy 7013," reads the report.
