The City of Richmond will be illuminated this Christmas, with approximately 250,000 lights and several displays gleaming around the city.
As of last Tuesday, Dec. 1, a total of 4,355 LED light strings will be hung throughout Richmond, including:
- 3,698 strings in the City Centre;
- 231 strings at Britannia Heritage Shipyards;
- 28 strings in fishing nets along Moncton Street, from Seventh Avenue to No. 1 Road;
- 15 strings at Steveston Museum and Visitor Centre;
- 253 strings at Steveston Park and the Steveston Interurban Tram Building;
- 100 strings on the tin shed in front of the Gulf of Georgia Cannery;
- 30 strings at the City of Richmond Works Yard.
All the lights are set on timers from 4:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. and in addition to the lights, there will also be several themed LED displays, including:
- Eight illuminated deer in the City Centre;
- 15 illuminated globes on the heritage tree in the north west City Hall parking lot;
- 19 snowfall icicle displays hanging near the Cultural Centre plaza;
- Animated eight-foot-tall street pole fixtures: 32 along No. 3 Road, north of Granville Avenue to Firbridge Way, and four along Granville Avenue between No. 3 Road and Minoru Boulevard.
