The City of Richmond will tonight (Wednesday) be showing off a playpark designed by children for Terra Nova Rural Park.
The open house at Thompson Community Centre will feature the concept plan for the play experience and supporting features, such as a picnic area.
The proposal is the next phase of development for the park and is part of the citys long-term parks master plan.
A play area that takes advantage of the natural landscape was woven into the Terra Nova plan back into 2004 after extensive public consultation.
Mike Redpath, the citys manager of parks planning and design, told the News the motivation for the play area was to connect people to the nature, to the park and to the place.
Terra Nova is a large landscape and from the start of the process, theres always been a notion for this concept from public consultation and from the (parks) committee, added Redpath.
The park has been incrementally developed over the years, said Redpath, with elements being added over time.
The city has been working with local schoolchildren for several months on a design which reflects their ideas and is in-keeping with the nature of the park.
The open house runs from 5 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the centre at 5151 Granville Ave.
