Richmond is looking for its seventh writer in residence to foster an appreciation for Canadian writing in the community.

Richmond’s annual Writer in Residence Program operates in partnership between Richmond Public Library, Minoru Centre for Active Living and Arts Centre. For two months, one selected author provides advice to emerging writers through workshops and consultations to diverse communities. This year, there will be a particular focus on developing activities and workshops that inspire senior residents.

Richmond’s previous writers in residence are Caroline Adderson, Nancy Lee, Mark Leiren-Young, Sally Stubbs, Karen X. Tulchinsky and last year’s writer, Nilofar Shidmehr, who focused on encouraging participants to share their life stories from multiculturalist perspectives.

The deadline to apply for the full time, contract position which runs from September to November is this Friday, April 6. The position requires the writer to spend 25 per cent of their time on public programs with 75 per cent spent on creative writing.
