Drivers will be able to check for traffic jams before they leave the house after five new cameras were installed at Richmonds busiest intersections.

Then City of Richmond erected the cameras at the intersections to help the citys transportation department manage traffic flows.

But the public can access the still-frame shots which are overwritten and updated every 60 seconds by logging onto the citys website at www.richmond.ca/trafficcameras.

The cameras are located at:

-No. 1 Road and Moncton Street;

-Gilbert Road and Granville Avenue;

-St. Albans Road and Granville Avenue;

-Russ Baker Way and Miller Road;

-Russ Baker Way and Gilbert Road.

These are the first of several cameras being installed to help the city keep a close eye on the flow of traffic across Richmond.

The still images on the site are from fixed cameras that use video imaging technology to detect vehicles or bicycles for traffic signal operation. Images are overwritten every 60 seconds and are not recorded or stored.
