Charges against two Richmond men accused of interfering with a dead body in connection with a North Vancouver homicide have been dropped.
The two were among four men arrested by police who converged on a North Vancouver address around 3 a.m. Sept. 29 in response to an investigation involving several jurisdictions across the Lower Mainland.
On Thursday, charges were stayed against Richmond’s Dyllan James Green, 20, and Jacob Michael Gorelik, 18, in North Vancouver provincial court.
Crown counsel Jeremy Hermanson said outside the court there was insufficient evidence to proceed with the charges against the two men, who had previously been released on bail.
Two other men arrested at the scene remain charged in connection with the homicide.
Tianyi Zhang, 23, of Richmond, has been charged in the first-degree murder of Peng Sun, a man in his early 20s, in North Vancouver Sept. 28.
Sun was found dead in North Vancouver Sept. 29 - possibly inside a white Bentley that was the focus of investigation after police from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team arrived at the 900-block of Wellington Drive.
Zhang remains in custody but is expected to seek bail next month.
Zhang and a second man - Casey James Hiscoe, 21 - have both been charged with kidnapping Sun between Sept. 27 and 29 in North
Vancouver.
The two men also face charges of kidnapping Sun with intent to hold him for ransom during the same time period. They also face charges of interfering with a dead body.
Hiscoe has been released on $25,000 bail and must abide by conditions that include living with his mother in Richmond, obeying a house arrest curfew, handing over his passport to authorities and having no contact with Zhang, Green and Gorelik.
Few details have been released about the case, including whether there is a connection between Sun and any of the accused.
