The owner of a 106-year-old property was cursing his luck Tuesday morning after a vehicle flipped on its side and plowed through his front yard.

Sam Lackner was awoken at around 10 a.m. when he heard a loud crashing sound outside of his Jones Road home, just north of the No. 3 and Blundell roads intersection.

Lackner – whose family has owned for 50 years the property built in 1912 by Ben Jones – said his brother, Ken Lackner, tried to stop the male and female occupants of the flipped vehicle from running away.

When he called the Richmond News at about 10:30 a.m., Sam said the area was swarming with police and that the RCMP’s dog team was part of the investigation.

Lackner said the property’s giant hedge and 50-year-old wooden trellis had been ripped up by the crash.

Thankfully, the home itself and none of the trees originally planted by Jones back in 1912 were damaged.

“There’s quite a scene down here. I’m glad they didn’t hit the building while I was sleeping,” added Lackner.

Richmond RCMP has yet to confirm the details of the crash and if there are any suspects.
