Canada Line disruptions coming to Richmond next week

Starting April 26, trains will be running on a single track between Bridgeport and Brighouse to allow for construction of the new Capstan station

Canada Line users in Richmond will have to wait a little bit longer for their trains this spring.

From Tuesday, April 26 to June 5, the service between Bridgeport and Brighouse stations will be on a single track, to allow for more construction to be carried out at the new Capstan station.

For the first few days (until April 29), there will be a reduced frequency of trains running between the two points from 6 p.m. to midnight, which will add up to an extra wait time of seven minutes.

Longer delays on weekends

For the entire duration (until June 5), there will be longer delays on weekends, with extra wait times of around 13 minutes from the beginning of service until 9 p.m. on Saturdays and until 7 p.m. on Sundays.

TransLink anticipates a few minutes’ extra time for commuters throughout the rest of the Canada Line network during the disruption.

Extra bus links are being put on between the two stations – which will stop at each station on that stretch – to cope with the reduced train service.

TransLink said the new Capstan station remains on pace to open in 2023.
