Richmond woman, 65, attacked while walking her dog

Police are asking for the public’s help after a Richmond dog walker was the victim of what appears to be a random attack.

The assault happened in broad daylight about 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24 on the northwest corner of Moffatt Road and Blundell Road, close to Blundell and Gilbert roads.

The 65-year-old female victim was walking her dog in the area when she was approached by a suspect, a woman possibly in her 30s.

The suspect, say police, allegedly struck the dog-walker in the face then proceeded to pour some type of liquid over her, before fleeing the area on foot.

Both parties, added police, were not known to one another and the motive for the attack is unclear.

Police were notified of the assault some time later by a family member of the victim.

Blue jacketed

Dark pants

“We recognize the effects that a such a crime can have on our community and public safety” said Insp. Mark Baxter, operations officer Richmond RCMP.

“This matter is being treated very seriously and will be investigated fully.”

Anyone in the community who may have information is asked to contact the RCMP and quote file# 2023-30282. This area around Moffatt Road and Blundell Road is known to have steady pedestrian, vehicle, and commuters traveling though it.
