Sir Richard Branson and his Virgin Atlantic airline landed in Richmond Thursday with all the pomp and ceremony expected of a British invasion.

Sir Richard Branson and his Virgin Atlantic airline landed in Richmond Thursday with all the pomp and ceremony expected of a British invasion.

Branson whose airline was launching its London Heathrow to Vancouver service was joined by 2010 Winter Olympic skeleton gold medalist Amy Williams and a pair of flag-waving flight attendants on the stairs of one of his jets moments after landing.

Not content with just simply arriving, Branson sported a red and white tight-fitting skeleton suit to match Williams.

Both the airport and Branson said they had every confidence the new service would prove to be popular.

The new service will use an Airbus A340-300 with 34 upper-class, 35 premium economy and 171 economy seats.

Flights will run Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays and is forecast to carry up to 40,000 passengers and generate more than $21 million in tourism revenue.
