Who doesn’t like a great backdrop to a portrait or even group photo? Richmond is filled with many neighbourhoods and spots for daily and even seasonal photoshoots and we are listing the most popular and easy to get to locations.

Steveston Village

The village itself is known for its rich history as well as a popular filming location. From brick walls, to cute cafes and water views Steveston Village has it all for those photo backdrops. A tip for taking photos here is to head down to the wharf and onto the piers where you can capture a great view of the waters without any people or boats blocking the background. The best time would also be during sunrise and sunset.

Garry Point Park

During cherry blossom season this is the “go-to” spot for photos with tunnels of the pink trees lining the entrance to the park. There is also the Kuno Japanese Garden on the south side of the park, closest to the parking lot, with lots of greenery and even a little concrete bridge. The garden celebrates the centennial year of the arrival of the first Japanese immigrant to Canada. This park is west of Steveston Village and is accessible by public transit.

Minoru Park

While the park is under renovations until Spring 2023, the park is known for its ponds and an easy walkway that loops around in a circle. In the centre of the park is a wooden bridge that is great for individual or group photos. The Minoru Chapel is also less than a five-minute walk away for more photo opportunities. The parking is located closest to Westminster Highway, but it is accessible from behind the Richmond Hospital and Gateway Theatre.

Summer is here and every year the Richmond Night Market creates a multitude of photo options. The downside is you have to pay for it. However, this year, the market features neon signs throughout the market as well as light-up trees near the food area. It is close to the Bridgeport Skytrain Station and if the public decides to drive, parking is free.

McArthurGlen Designer Outlet

If you’re near the Vancouver International Airport, then you most likely may have passed by Richmond’s shopping outlet. McArthurGlen is like a miniature town for photoshoots with gazebos, a covered walkway with lights, street lamps and art sculptures. This is the place you want to be during Christmas as the entire outlet is decorated with lights with a giant Christmas ornament and tree in the centre of the outlet for those festive photos. Parking is free, but there are gates that close late in the evening.

If you’re looking for an artsy and cultural backdrop, then this is the place. This grand temple is in southeast Richmond and features a lovely garden for visitors. The front and back yards of the temple has pavilions, stone landscaping and lotus ponds. The temple is open every day from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is on Steveston Highway between No. 3 and No. 4 roads.
