B.C.'s police watchdog has cleared an RCMP officer involved in a shooting incident in Richmond last year.
On Aug. 22, 2024, around 11 p.m., Richmond RCMP helped Richmond Fire-Rescue respond to a man allegedly setting a sign on fire in the 9800-block of Glenthorne Drive.
During the police interaction, a struggle ensued during which the police officer was stabbed and the man was shot by police, according to BC RCMP.
Both the man and a police officer were taken to the hospital for treatment.
After reviewing video footage, witness statements, medical records and police reports, the Chief Civilian Director of the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIOBC) found there were "no reasonable grounds to believe any officer may have committed an offence," according to the IIOBC website.
The IIOBC has completed its investigation, but the report will not be released due to ongoing court proceedings.
