Bail hearing for men charged in fatal shooting at Richmond sushi restaurant postponed -- again

Reed and Lei are scheduled to appear next on June 29.

Court proceedings for the first-degree murder of alleged professional money launderer Jian Jun Zhu are underway.

Zhu was shot to death in Manzo restaurant on Sept. 18, 2020, while he was dining with Paul King Pao Jin, another alleged money launderer. Jin was injured in the attack and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Richard Charles (Ricky) Reed was charged with the first-degree murder of Zhu and aggravated assault of Jin, along with four additional charges, as announced by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) in November 2021.

His co-accused, Yuexi Lei, was subsequently charged with three charges of “receiving, comforting, or assisting” Reed to escape.

Reed and Lei were scheduled to appear before the Richmond Provincial Court today for a bail hearing, but it was adjourned to June 29, 2022.

The hearing had already been rescheduled multiple times.
