The Richmond Yacht Club presents their annual Parade of Lights. Brightly decorated vessels will be on parade on the Fraser River between the Dinsmore Bridge and Cambie Road from 5: 30 to 7: 30 p.m. on the evenings of Saturday, Dec. 17 and Sunday, Dec. 18. Best viewing is from the dike by the Richmond Yacht Club at 7471 River Rd. Everyone is welcome to come out and enjoy this free event. Free hot chocolate, cookies and traditional holiday music with a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. Donations appreciated for the Richmond Food Bank and new unwrapped toys for the Richmond Christmas Fund. In addition, the Clubhouse and vessels are lit up every evening from about 5 to 9 p.m., drive by for the fantastic view until Dec. 31.

The World of Music and Arts presents Frosty Music Gala Kids Concert on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 3 p.m. at Gilmore Part United Church, 8060 No.1 Rd. The concert showcases Richmond's pianist Anna Vavilova, who directs an exciting and free fun concert for the whole family, starring young and talented kids performing piano, guitar, cello, violin and voice. The Pacific Woodworkers Guild members meet on the third Tuesday of each month (except July and August). New members and guests are always welcome! They meet at 11060 No. 2 Rd. Come watch the presentations, get involved in the discussions and enjoy the refreshments.

The Multiple Sclerosis Support Group meets at 1 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month through to June, at the Richmond Presbyterian Church, 7111 No 2 Rd, Family members, friends and caregivers also welcome. During the week of Dec. 26 to 30 (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) Nurse Next Door Richmond will be accepting four participants daily into our Pink Heart Club for FREE.

Participants must arrange their own transportation (although we can help families make these arrangements).

Participants must preregister with Nurse Next Door Richmond prior to 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 19 to be accepted for this special offer and must also meet our program mandate (the minimum requirement is to be over 55 years of age and living in Richmond. The Steveston Rotary Santa Claus Parade happens Friday, Dec. 23 at 6 p.m. The parade will run through old Steveston past Lord Byng elementary, then down Moncton Road to the Steveston Community Centre. Donations of cash or nonperishable food are welcome.

MISCELLANEOUS

Do two good deeds at once by donating a non-perishable food item when donating blood at one of many Richmond blood donor clinics this holiday season. Bleed & Feed food collection boxes will be at the front reception desk at all B.C. blood donor clinics from now to Dec. 31. In Richmond, food collected will be donated to the Richmond Food Bank Society. There are still 165 donation appointments available at Richmond blood donor clinics. Donors can book appointments to give blood in one of two ways - by calling 1-888-2-DONATE (1-888-236-6283) or by booking online at blood. ca.

Big River Brew Pub is hosting a Christmas Food Drive for the Richmond Food Bank from now to Dec. 31. Customers who bring in cans of food to Big River Richmond at 14200 Entertainment Blvd. will receive gift certificates valued at $2 per donated nonperishable food item or cash donation. Richmond's Nurse Next Door offers a new program for seniors. The Pink Heart Club is an activity-based program run by qualified care aides offering all sorts of fun activities such as walks, gardening, lunches out or anything else a senior might want to do.
