The Steveston Buddhist Temple presents Obon Festival on Saturday, July 16 and Sunday, July 17, (beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday and 10: 30 a.m. on Sunday). There will be dances, food, children activities and door prizes. Everyone is welcome to attend. The temple is located at 4360 Garry St.

Mayfair Lakes Golf and Country Club pros Keri Moffat, Taylor Hull and Tony Rommel will golf from sunrise to sunset lending their muscles to those who have lost theirs to ALS in the 2011 GolfAThon for ALS to give hope to patients living with ALS on Monday, July 18. Participants will golf as many holes as possible in a 24-hour period to collect funds for ALS patients. You can help raise funds to support these crucial programs. The Alzheimer Society of B.C. presents Preparation for Transition to Residential Care and Life in Residential Care. These two, 1.5 hour workshops, will take place on Thursday, July 14 and 21 from 7 to 8: 30 p.m. at Richmond Caring Place, 7000 Minoru Blvd.

SOS Children's Village BC invites you to grab your needles and join us for Knitting for Change taking place from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 23 in the Central Court of Lansdowne Centre. This event will bring together individuals of all ages and backgrounds to knit or crochet squares for pledges to raise both money and awareness for a great cause. The squares will later be combined into blankets and distributed to kids in need. On Saturday, July 23 Kin's Farm Market at Blundell Centre will be hosting a fundraiser benefiting the Richmond Public Library.
