A new 11-session series focusing on adult literacy, Literacy FIRST! takes place from Friday, June 14 to Friday, August 23 at the Brighouse branch Community Place from 6: 30 to 8: 30 p.m, or from Saturday, June 15 to Saturday, August 24 from 10: 30 am to 12: 30 p.m. Space is limited to 10 participants and attendance at all 11 sessions is required for the best results. Mystery writers E.R. Brown and Robin Spano will read from their new novels on Friday, June 14 from 7 to 8: 30 p.m. at the Brighouse branch, 7700 Minoru Gate. The drop-in program is part of the library's Authors in Our Midst series. For more information, call 604231-6413.

Clothes2U will be in Richmond distributing clothes, toys, linens, diapers, personal/ household items free to those in need on Saturday, June 15 at Richmond Faith Church, 11960 Montego St. from 12: 30 to 3 p.m. There will be free refreshments. The Community Arts Council of Richmond presents Pots 'n' Paints, a free juried exhibition featuring the members of the Richmond Potters Club and the Richmond Artists Guild from Saturday, June 15 to June 23 at the Richmond Cultural Centre, 7700 Minoru Gate. All artwork in some way shows pottery. The opening reception is on Friday, June 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. Exhibition hours are Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4: 30 p.m. Information is at www.richmondartscouncil.org.
