TALK, a Third Age Learning series at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (for those ages 50+) presents Music Appreciation beginning Friday, Oct. 26 and running every Friday until Nov. 16 from 10 to 11: 50 a.m. at Kwantlen's Richmond campus, room 1340. The Richmond Chapter of Canadian Parents for French is putting on a Halloween Event in French. The event is geared towards elementary school children in Richmond in French language programs. There will be a haunted house, face painting, a disco with French music, arts and crafts, cupcake decorating and fun games activities. It is happening at Dixon elementary on Friday, Oct. 26 at 6: 30 p.m. The cost is $5/child.

Open Conversations: The Art Practices of Carole Condé and Karl Beveridge is a new exhibit at Richmond Art Gallery until Nov. 10. The artists define their photo-based art practice around the facilitation of dialogue among diverse communities and networks. The Richmond Chinese Community Society is hosting its 23rd Annual Fundraising Dinner and Dance on Saturday, Oct. 27 at the Radisson President Hotel.

Reception starts at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The theme this year is Scholarships for Richmond Students. Richmond-based Novex Couriers, a same day sustainable courier, is seeking bold, risk-taking, entrepreneurial individuals and businesses across North America to participate in the Novex Challenge by submitting an environmentally or socially sustainable idea that solves a real problem. Novex Couriers hopes that the challenge will assist them in continuing to solve problems that their clients and the community face.

Interested applicants must go to novexchallenge2013.istart.org to submit ideas by midnight on Wednesday, October 31.

Participants must share information about him or herself or the company and how the idea solves a problem for a customer, ideally by video submission. There is no cost to submit ideas. The selected winner will receive a cash prize of $2,500 and the opportunity to make the idea a reality with a team and financial backing from Novex Couriers.

Richmond Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop presents its annual Antique and Vintage Sale, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2 and 3 from 9: 30 a.m. to 3: 30 p.m. at 3731 Chatham St. (corner of 2nd Avenue) in Steveston. Hundreds of treasures! All proceeds go to the Richmond Hospital.

Richmond's Dream Auction hosts the Dream Catcher's Concert takes place on Friday, Nov. 9 at Gilmore Park United Church from 7: 30 to 9 p.m. Local musicians include Alvin and Alex Bois-Bonifacio and the Richmond Singers' Ensemble. Refreshments will follow and tickets cost $10. All proceeds go to supporting children living in poverty in Richmond. The Gulf of Georgia Cannery's annual Fishing the West Coast Photo Contest has collected stunning images from the fishing industry. Visitors to the cannery can vote on their favourites. Those who can't make it in for a visit can vote at www.flickr. com/groups.fwcphoto-contest/. The collected images are on display from now until Oct. 26.
