Annual free bike tour to showcase Richmond’s scenery this weekend

Participants will get to choose from two different routes

The 21st annual bike tour showcasing Richmond’s scenic routes is returning this weekend,

Experienced tour guides will be taking community members around Richmond during the City of Richmond’s Island City, by Bike tour on Sunday, June 11.

The tours will start and end at Thompson Community Centre at 5151 Granville Avenue and participants can choose from two routes.

The long route, which kicks off at 10 a.m., is 22.5-kilometres long including on- and off-street biking from Granville Avenue through areas such as Garden City Road, Great Canadian Way and Charles Street Multi-use pathways, No. 3 Road, River Parkway and the Railway Greenway.

The short one-hour route, starting at 11 a.m., is a 8.5-kilometre ride through Lynas Lane, the Middle Arm Dyke Trail, a portion of Crabapple Ridge Neighbourhood Bikeway, Blundell Road and the Railway Greenway.

Pre-ride bike and helmet safety checks will be available from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Participants will reconvene at Thompson Community Centre at around 12:30 p.m. for snacks and raffle draws.

Participants will also learn about Richmond RCMP’s anti-theft initiative to register bikes and find out more about the city’s e-scooters and e-bikes from City of Richmond e-scooter program ambassadors.

Participants arriving by vehicle can park at the Burnett secondary parking lot.
