A former City of Vancouver treasurer, who took more than $217,000 in taxpayer funds, is once again accused of stealing money from his employer, this time in Richmond.

Sante "Sandy" Antonio Maddalena, 58, was charged with fraud over $5,000 and theft over $5,000 in Richmond Provincial Court Tuesday. His next appearance is set for Feb. 5.

According to a civil suit, Maddalena was employed as an accounting clerk in charge of payroll administration for Richmond's Kirk Integrated Marketing Services Inc. from Oct. 29, 2001 until Aug. 31, 2006.

It is alleged that, from at least 2004 to 2006, Maddalena overpaid himself by manipulating the company's payroll records before they were submitted to the payroll service.

The statement of claim says Maddalena was overpaid a total of $191,986.44.

He also was accused of tampering with and altering records to conceal his actions, which were not discovered until more than a year after Maddalena stopped working for the firm. Maddalena, in a statement of defence, denied all of the allegations.
