Those traveling through Vancouver International Airport on Tuesday may notice some unique visitors in their midst.
However, the airport is assuring passengers that even though these people may seem “distressed” or wearing theatrical makeup, there’s nothing to worry about: it’s all part of an annual, emergency response training exercise.
“Safety is our number one priority at YVR and holding biennial large-scale exercises is one way that we maintain our high emergency response standards,” the airport says in a statement.
In total, nearly 500 participants from 25 different agencies will be involved at YVR and in other locations around the Lower Mainland.
Activity at the airport may be at several locations between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., including inside the terminal and on the airfield near Templeton Skytrain Station.
The airport says participants will be identified with vests, name tags or a YVR baseball cap.
“If you see them, don’t be alarmed,” the airport’s statement says. “Having actors helps our airport staff and emergency responders fine tune their training.”
The airport adds that operations or travel schedules will not be affected.
