1st day of spot prawn sales draws massive line up at Steveston Harbour

Vessels began selling spot prawns in Steveston Harbour on Saturday

A massive line has formed at Steveston Harbour for the first day of spot prawn sales.

Photos sent to the Richmond News by reader Joyce Ang Saturday morning show the line winding down the boardwalk from Fisherman's Wharf.

Every year, spot prawn season gathers seafood fans from across the region during May and June, and Steveston is one of the hotspots.

Shane Dagan, owner of Steveston Seafood House, told the News earlier this week that while spot prawn season always draws a crowd, this year he’s more excited than ever.

“I know we aren’t really looking for crowds this time, but this year I think it’ll be an even busier season because everybody is at home,” he said at the time.

One-way foot traffic is in place near the wharf on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the first two weeks of the season, as well as signs letting people know where to line up.
