YVR celebrated a new connection with London, England when WestJet started its London-Gatwick service on May 6. The non-stop service will operate six times a week throughout the summer season. WestJet will fly their Boeing 767-300 wide-body aircraft on the route, complete with a signature new maple leaf-themed tail on the aircraft, which offers seats for 262 guests, including its Plus cabin with premium seats for 24. The inaugural flight also marked the airline’s first flight to Europe. On hand for the event were a number of dignitaries, including WestJet’s president and CEO Gregg Saretsky, B.C.s Minister of Jobs, Tourism, and Skills Training and Minister Responsible for Labour, Shirley Bond, and YVR’s president and CEO Craig Richmond. “WestJet is now offering the public more choice for travel to the UK from Vancouver and, in turn, bringing more Brits to explore our city,” Richmond said.
