Three Richmond worksites were fined for high-risk violations by WorkSafeBC.

Three worksites in Richmond were penalized in late 2023 for failing to ensure fall protection was used.

According to WorkSafeBC's database, True Blue Construction was slapped with a $7,250.66 fine in November 2023 after a WorkSafeBC inspection revealed a worker was exposed to a fall risk of 3.5 metres.

The company was framing a two-storey house and the worker was at the edge of the second floor with no form of fall protection in place, which was considered a high-risk violation.

WorkSafeBC added the company also failed to provide workers with information, instruction, training and supervision to ensure their health and safety.

Both were repeat violations, according to the database.

Sun Light Roofing & Siding was fined in December 2023 for exposing workers to a fall risk of about 6.1 metres when two workers, including a company representative, were spotted working at the edge of a 5:12 sloped hip roof with no form of fall protection.

The $5,000 fine was issued for repeated violations of failing to ensure usage of fall protection, a high-risk violation, and failure to provide workers with information and training to ensure their safety.

Also fined in the same month was Feather Wood House, whose worker was seen installing guardrails without fall protection at the edge of the third level of an apartment building under construction.

The worker was exposed to a fall risk of about 5.5 metres and was within a company representative's line of sight.

Window openings on the second floor at the site were seen to be not fully guarded as well, according to WorkSafeBC.

A $2,500 fine was issued for repeated violations of failing to ensure fall protection was used and failing to ensure elevated work areas had guards or guardrails installed.
