T&T Supermarket opened its third Richmond location on Aug. 16 to much fanfare and pandemonium.

Hundreds of people lined up in the morning to enter the new store at Lansdowne Centre - the former site of Eatons, Zellers and Target – that features Asian groceries and cuisine.

Key, specific features include: a Seafood Bar where employees will cook seafood on the spot for a fee; a sit-down cafeteria; a pharmacy; and a Starbucks.

The store has 14 self-serve checkouts in addition to nine cashiers.

According to T&T: “The store also boasts over 30 Asian Street Food dishes from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. There is Popcorn Chicken, a famous snack from Taiwan’s night market, Lamb Soup and Sesame Crispy Cake, anostalgic Northern Chinese breakfast item, and Steamed Rice Rolls, which are a classic representation of Hong Kong culinary delights.”

Lansdowne Centre will be redeveloped in phases over the next decade, so it is unclear how long this store will last in the existing building, which opens into the mall.
