A long-time fixture in Steveston Village has shuttered after 24 years, but it's not a goodbye.

Steveston Winemakers, a DIY wine shop on First Avenue and Chatham Road, closed its doors on March 12.

This is not the end, however, as the business has merged with Grapes 2 Wine, another Richmond DIY wine shop on Bridgeport Road.

Its website and point of sale system are also moving to Grapes 2 Wine, with the new website being grapes2wine.ca.

"It’s especially comforting to know that they will be in such good hands with Mark (Cordick), who launched his U-Vin more than three decades ago," wrote owners Bill Koopmans and Heather Hannah.

"Customers can be confident with the depth of his knowledge and experience in the craft winemaking industry.

"There’s free parking right in front of Grapes 2 Wine as well.”

Koopmans and Hannah, who used to be regulars at Steveston Winemakers, took over the business in 2018 when the former owners retired.

The couple saw the close-knit relationship between staff and customers and purchased the business as a way to give back to the community.

"Thank you Steveston for over 24 years of business, friendships, collaborations and support," wrote the owners.

"Special thanks to our customers, RJS Craft Winemaking, Steveston Merchants Association, Steveston Insider and Tourism Richmond for your loyalty and support."
