The Summer Sesh cannabis industry networking event is scheduled to take place between Sept. 12 and 14 at Lipont Place in Richmond.
This three-day conference will connect retailers, producers and enthusiasts from across the Lower Mainland and will feature diverse presentations, trade shows, panel discussions and a networking party on Thursday, Sept. 12.
Additionally, there will be a consumption-friendly speed networking session and a block party featuring over 30 brands, a movie theatre, an art market, and food trucks on Friday, Sept. 13.
Topics covered in the event will include issues surrounding the B.C. market, direct delivery, farmgate, Indigenous business, and more.
The event is being hosted in a city where weed dispensaries are banned, following the legalization of non-medical cannabis in 2018.
“The city will vigorously enforce its bylaws should any retail cannabis outlet attempt to operate within Richmond,” says the city’s website.
In early 2023, Coun. Carol Day led the discussion of possibly having a medical marijuana dispensary in Richmond – a motion defeated by council and Mayor Malcolm Brodie.
“I’m not going to support that… You can get mail-order cannabis. It actually comes from a distribution centre in east Richmond,” said Brodie.
Summer Sesh is organized by the Craft Cannabis Association of B.C. (CCABC), the Licensed Retail Cannabis Council of B.C., and HOWBOUTTHIS Events.
CCABC director Sarah Campbell said it’s been a difficult couple of years for the industry, but her organization is excited to bring stakeholders together for networking, support, learning and fun.
HOWBOUTTHIS Events founder Brittney Guthire also shared her excitement prior to the event, saying she looks forward to shaping the future of cannabis by encouraging innovation.
“Summer Sesh represents a significant opportunity for our association to foster collaboration, share insights, and drive meaningful dialogue with government regulators,” she said.
