The Richmond Night Market has received a green light to run for another three years.
An application by Firework Productions Limited, owned by Raymond Cheung, was submitted to the city asking for another temporary three-year commercial use permit - for 2024 to 2026 - for a property just south of River Rock Casino.
The event is expected to run between April 26 and Oct. 20 this year, according to a city staff report.
Every year, the Richmond Night Market has up to 150 retail stalls and 130 food vendors as well as entertainment and carnival games.
The market has almost 1,500 on-site parking stalls.
City bylaws received two complaints -- one for noise and one for parking -- during the summer market last year, according to city staff.
The City of Richmond also handed out more than $40,000 worth of fines to people who were illegally parked around the night market property last year.
The Richmond Night Market was first issued a temporary three-year permit in 2017 and they renewed it again for 2021-2023.
Currently, the site of the market is earmarked for a multi-phased high-density commercial redevelopment, but it has yet to be rezoned.
