Richmond ice cream shop offering half a million dollars in salary

Mr. Gold’s Gelato has ambitious expansion plans and is flashing the cash

A tearoom and ice cream parlour in Steveston has ambitious expansion plans – and is claiming to offer a new franchise development manager an incredible half a million dollars in salary.

Not only that, the owner of Mr. Gold’s Gelato on Moncton Street is looking to hire a marketing and sales manager for $200,000 a year and a branch store manager for $84,000 per annum.

According to a post on Little Red Book, a popular Chinese-language social app, the shop is hiring a franchise development manager and offering an annual salary of $500k.

This is six times of the average salary for the position listed on Glassdoor.

“It’s a rare opportunity and one that’s hard to find!” said the job post.

A spokesperson for the tearoom said the owners of the business have lofty plans to expand the business.

“Our business survived the pandemic thanks to the support from the government, which we are very grateful for,” said the spokesperson, who didn’t want to divulge too many details about the plans at the moment.

“So we can now seek to franchise the brand and to do that, we need excellent, highly-specialized talent.

”We will announce more detailed information about the positions and the development plan of our company later.”

The job post says people with related experience in the catering industry will be given preference and, if needed, the company can facilitate work visas and immigration applications for selected candidates.
