Canada’s very first McDonald’s, on No. 3 Road near Granville Ave., will be the place for a big, 50th anniversary celebration for the iconic hamburger chain when it re-opens the restaurant for a private event next Wednesday (June 21) following a complete re-development of the site.
According to company officials, the original golden arches that presided over the site since 1967 will be back in place.
Customers will be invited to the revamped location for the offcial public opening on June 23.
But indications are the event will honour its long history in the community by celebrating some of its most iconic moments over the past five decades.
“Being a part of the original McDonald’s Canada location is very special,” said Joe Guzzo, McDonald’s Richmond franchisee. “We now have the chance to continue on this rich history at this location by modernizing the restaurant and the experience for our guests. We look forward to welcoming the City of Richmond and all community members back to the restaurant to check out our new look and feel.”
