Sungiven Foods, a small grocery brand that opened several locations across Metro Vancouver in the past year, expects to add Richmond to its list by the end of 2020.

Terence Fong, senior vice president of Sungiven Canada, said the company’s name is inspired by the sun giving nutrition to many of the items the chain sells.

“Sungiven Foods’ main focus is on bringing the highest quality products at the most reasonable prices,” said Fong.

“We want everything to be as natural as possible.”

Fong told the Richmond News there was no question his company wanted to open a store in Richmond, mainly because of the city’s high Asian demographic, but it was hard to find the right space.

“Richmond was a priority for us to open a store in and we had many customers (make that) request,” said Fong.

“However, it was not easy to find a suitable location, so we started our business in Vancouver, Burnaby and White Rock first.”

Work is underway for the new Richmond store to take over the former Pier 1 Imports building at 9771 Bridgeport Rd. and expects to open its doors later this month.

In addition to Richmond, the grocery chain is preparing to launch another two Metro Vancouver stores:

  • South Surrey: at 3211 152nd St. – in the Rosemary Heights area
  • North Vancouver: at 1595 Marine Dr. – inside the old Pier 1 Imports

Richmond’s location will sell everything you would expect in a market including free-range eggs, bakery items, seafood and local farm produce. The company will also feature a range of its own brands which use non-GMO ingredients.

“We are a community neighbourhood store, and we want to invite the community to drop by, say hi to us, celebrate with us, taste our food and love it.”
