Four Richmond-based businesses were recognized for their forward-thinking workplaces by the Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers competition.
The competition is in partnership with the Globe and Mail as a committee of editors judges workplaces with under 500 employees on eight criteria, including: physical workplace; work atmosphere and social; health, financial & family benefits; vacation and time off; employee communications; performance management; training and skills development; and community involvement.
The honoured companies, according to the Globe are:
- Auto West Ltd., Automotive dealers; 210 employees. Features a green roof at head office with rooftop gardening plots growing vegetables, herbs and fruit.
- Cowell Motors Ltd., New car dealerships; 220 employees. Encourages employee team building through participation in events such as the Vancouver Sun Run and the Tough Mudder race.
- Great Little Box Company Ltd., Box manufacturing; 256 employees. Presents two top-performing employees with the “Award of Excellence” every month, including $500 to the charity of their choice.
- Harbour Air Group, Passenger air transportation; 243 employees. Maintains a charitable focus on the environment and community-oriented projects, donating more than 800 flights in the past year to non-profit organizations through its Pink Friday sponsorship.
