Daiso opens its doors in Richmond

The Japanese discount store giant is holding a soft opening ahead of its grand opening next week.

It's official — Daiso is back in Richmond and opened just in time for 2023.

Richmondites were spotted lining up at Lansdowne Centre on Saturday afternoon for the first day of the Japanese discount store's soft opening.

The Richmond News previously reported that the brand was making a return after its Aberdeen Centre franchisee re-branded to OOMOMO in 2019.

The decision to return to Richmond was based on its large population, especially in terms of Asian communities, Daiso Canada manager Taro Aoki told The Richmond News on behalf of Daiso.

"Fortunately, Daiso has name recognition among these groups. With this in mind, we thought Daiso is a good fit for Richmond," said Aoki.

The 5,586-square-foot Lansdowne location is Daiso's 92nd North American store and the third in Canada. Shoppers will find Daiso's signature products including home goods, school supplies, kitchenware, beauty supplies and Asian snacks.

"We hope that the community welcomes us coming back to Richmond," Aoki said.

A grand opening for the Lansdowne Centre location is scheduled for next weekend on Jan. 7 and 8, 2023 at 10 a.m.  The first 100 customers on Saturday and Sunday will get a goodie bag with a $40 minimum purchase.

In the meantime, Richmondites can now hunt for good deals and novelty products at Daiso during its soft opening.
