Two authors surprised their 105-year-old grandmother with a double book launch.

Richmond resident Margaret Spires was invited to Richmond Centre’s Indigo Spirit for the pop-up event to celebrate Delta authors and cousins Ashley Spires and Cameron Spires’ new books.

Ashley told the Richmond News that their grandmother was so excited she had her nails done and “gotten all dressed up” just to attend the one-hour Richmond event.

“She was just so excited to see the two of us and what we’ve accomplished,” said Ashley.

She describes Margaret as an avid reader and is someone “who reads voraciously” — qualities that the Spires cousins look up to.

Despite an earlier book launch in Ladner, the two cousins wanted to bring the celebration to their grandmother who has been “a source of inspiration” in their writing careers.

“We wanted to have a launch closer to her so that she could take part because it’s not every day that you have two grandkids launching books at the same time,” said Ashley, adding that their grandmother has limited mobility.

Ashley released her book titled Burt the Beetle Lives Here while Cameron debuted his first title, What Were You Expecting?
