Enjoy a free all-ages Taiwanese festival in Vancouver on the Labour Day weekend featuring storytelling, crafts, performances, films, exhibits and food.

TAIWANfest is highlighting the culture the Philippines this year as part of its Dialogues with Asia series.

Catch the opening ceremonies and Fete with the Philippines concert from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 1 featuring performances from JUNO nominated Canadian recording artist Warren Dean Flandez, the award-winning Auba Rukai Children’s Choir and 13-year-old cellist and classical music fanatic Jamie Chan.

Immerse yourself in a virtual reality tour of an exhibition at the National Palace Museum highlighting the life and culture of Taiwan’s Indigenous people’s from the 18th and 19th centuries through the Cultural Maze event.

Watch the International Pan-Asian Culinary Invitational cooking competition featuring chefs from Taiwan, Vietnam and South Korea. Or listen to Yen-Chun Lu’s stories of traveling the island and meeting locals to learn about their adoption of sustainable agricultural practices as part of the Let’s Savour Taiwan programming.

Hop onboard a Jeepney, which is a common form of public transportation in the Philippines, take in a performance from Vancouver Okinawa Taiko or learn to play the ukulele at a workshop led by Juno nominee Ginalina called Uke’n Do It!

TAIWANfest runs from Sept. 1 to Sept. 3 at the Vancouver Art Gallery (750 Hornby Street).
