70% of Canadians rely on dating apps when it comes to finding a romantic connection, new poll finds.

A new survey shows British Columbian adults are getting back into the dating game after several years of virtual-first hangouts and more than enough “me time.”

OpenTable has teamed up with dating app Bumble, to determine the perfect venue for every type of meet-up, including: best restaurants for a date, best restaurants for a friend date and best restaurants for a business meeting.

The survey reveals that more than three-quarters of British Columbians indicate their social circles have shrunk in the past several years, with more than half interested in seeking new friend connections and more than a quarter looking for a romantic partner.

But getting started is easier said than done.

Over a quarter of British Columbians say they want to expand their social circle and make new friends but don’t know where to start. The survey also found that 61% of all British Columbian adults are looking for some inspiration when it comes to choosing a place to meet up in real life.

“Our survey data reveals that Canadians are actively seeking out new connections and are turning to apps to find them. In fact, 70% of Canadians rely on dating apps when it comes to finding a romantic connection. Partnering with Bumble to debut these lists means Canadians can take things offline, skip the dreaded ‘where should we go’ moment and instead focus on what matters,” says Matt Davis, spokesperson for OpenTable.

“Being able to make meaningful connections while supporting the still-recovering dining scene is truly a win-win for all of us.”

According to the V.P. at Bumble, Olivia Yu “we’re fuelled by bringing people together to build genuine connections across every stage of their life: dating, making friends, and professional connections.”

Yu says 2022 has been about rediscovering some of our favourite spots after the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Whether it’s going back to some of our favourite spots or finding new ones to share. We can’t wait to partner with OpenTable in Canada and hope that these lists make it easier for those within our community to find the perfect place to meet, no matter the type of relationship they’re looking for.”
