IHOP, the International House of Pancakes recently announced that it was changing its name to IHOb.
The American diner chain kept the public in suspense for days as to what the ‘b’ in the new name could mean and the company has revealed that that ‘b’ is for burgers.
IHOb will offer seven new “Ultimate Steakburgers” with names like Big Brunch, Cowboy BBQ, Jalapeno Kick, Mushroom & Swiss, The Classic, The Classic with Bacon and Mega Monster.
“We felt like the best way to convince them [the public] that we are as serious about our new line of Ultimate Steakburgers as we are about our pancakes, was to change our name to IHOb,” says Brad Haley, Chief Marketing Officer for IHOb restaurants in a release.
Other restaurants, however, have had some fun on social media at IHOB's expense.
Remember when you were like 7 and thought changing your name to Thunder BearSword would be super cool?

Like that, but our cheeseburgers are still better.
Can't wait to try a burger from the place that decided pancakes were too hard.

Inspired by the International House of Burgers announcement, we are also changing our name (Please do not ask what it means — we don’t know either.) pic.twitter.com/0HPQtQirHn

The company hints that the name change is just “for the time being” but it’s clear that IHOb will now be serving burgers all day long.
IHOP was founded in 1958 in California but has 10 locations in the Lower Mainland including one in Vancouver, Richmond, New Westminster, Langley, Surrey, Port Coquitlam White Rock, Abbotsford and two locations in Burnaby.
