Book signing: Saturday Sept. 10:

Brush up on your local history with Coun. Bill McNulty, who has penned his most recent book on Richmond’s past in Richmond, British Columbia, An Illustrated History 1849 – 2015 during a book signing at the Gulf of Georgia Cannery (12138 Fourth Ave.) on Saturday from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. The close to 400-page tome highlights each year in the city’s past and features an array of photos. Cost of the book is $25 and part proceeds go the Friends of the Richmond Archives.

 

SPCA fundraiser: Sunday Sept. 11:

Help out some animals in need at the Scotiabank & BC SPCA Paws for a Cause event Sunday starting at 11 a.m. at Garry Point Park (12011 7th Avenue). This fundraising event is a great way to get out and get active with your furry friend. The walk portion of the event begins at 1 p.m. and is complete by 2 p.m. Price: $10 for youths and $20 for adults. Note: All animals must be on leash. The day’s activities also include: kid’s zone with games and a bouncy castle; interactive vendors such as Richmond Reptile Rescue and Richmond Auto Mall with Rabbitats; a BBQ with SPCA certified meat and tasty Gardein vegan delights; Balance In Motion and the RCMP and their popular bike registration program will be on hand.

 

Community centre anniversary: Sunday Sept.11:

Richmond’s newest community centre, the City Centre Community Centre, celebrates its first anniversary on Sunday with a host of special celebrations during a free, family-friendly drop-in style event from 2 to 5 p.m. The party for Richmond’s first urban community centre, which is located at 105-5900 Minoru Boulevard, will include live entertainment and a chance to try a range of free programs and activities that showcase some of the many arts, dance, fitness, music and physical activity programs that are offered at the centre for people of all ages, abilities and interests.
